PHDays in Far East

On May 30 and 31, PHDays Everywhere gathered dozens of hackspaces and universities all over the world, but the largest regional platform of Positive Hack Days 2012 was set up in Vladivostok. dvCTF 2012, a task-based CTF contest for university teams, was organized by Far Eastern Federal University.

12 teams participated in dvCTF 2012. The contest was won by hackers of the Luckers team from Maritime State University. The second place was taken by the GrayCap team. They were followed by ASIPM.

On June 7 Vladivostok welcomed Sergey Gordeychik, CTO of Positive Technologies, who came to congratulate the best teams and give them prices.  As a pleasant surprise, the guest from Moscow gave a lecture on gaps in information security, which smoothly turned into a friendly talk about various aspects of the issue.

The lecture was attended not only by FEFU students, but by future IT specialists from other universities of the city, as well.

Besides, CTO of Positive Technologies announced that FEFU had joined the Positive Education program initiated by Positive Technologies. The program will offer new educational methods aimed at training highly qualified IT specialists, which are so sought-after on the today's market.

FEFU students, as well as those from other 14 universities participating in the program, will enjoy it for free. In addition, according to Sergey Kultyshev, one of the organizers of the Far Eastern “Conference of Hackers”, next year FEFU plans to organize an IT week and invite hackers and IT specialists from the entire Asian-Pacific region.

Sergey Gordeychik’s told about this trip on his personal blog in Russian.

Special thanks to Igor V. Solpa, Deputy Principle of FEFU, and Pavel N. Kornyushin, Head of Chair of Information Technologies of FEFU, for their assistance in organizing PHDays Everywhere and dvCTF.
